How can a Bangladeshi student study in Malaysia with a scholarship?

There are three main routes, and you can combine the first two with the right course choice:

1

University tuition discounts & bursaries

The most common route for undergraduates. The university reduces your tuition based on your SSC/HSC or degree result. It is decided when you apply and shown in your offer letter.

2

Merit & research funding

Some universities reward high results or a strong English score, and PhD students can sometimes be funded through research grants or assistantships. Ask about it when you apply.

3

Government scholarships

Programmes such as MIS and MTCP support Master’s and PhD students. They are competitive, have yearly deadlines and are applied for through the official portals.

Scholarships in Malaysia: common questions

Can Bangladeshi students study in Malaysia with a scholarship?
Yes. Most Bangladeshi students at Malaysian private universities receive a tuition discount or bursary based on their SSC/HSC or degree result. Fully funded government scholarships also exist, but they are mainly for Master's and PhD study and are very competitive.
How much scholarship can I get to study in Malaysia?
At the universities we work with, the offers on our course list run from 10% up to 50% off tuition, and some programmes have a fixed discounted fee instead. The exact amount depends on your academic result, the course and the intake, and it is confirmed in your offer letter.
Is there a fully funded scholarship for Bangladeshi students in Malaysia?
Government programmes such as the Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) and the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) can cover tuition and allowances for postgraduate study. Terms, deadlines and the list of eligible countries change every year, so check the official guidelines before you apply.
Do I need IELTS to get a scholarship?
It depends on the university and the course. Many accept IELTS or another English test, and some accept a Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate or run their own English test or English programme. A strong English score can help with scholarship and discount decisions.
What documents do I need?
A valid passport, your SSC and HSC (or equivalent) certificates and transcripts, passport-size photos and, if you have one, an English test result. Master's and PhD applicants usually also need a degree certificate and transcript, a statement of purpose, recommendation letters and a research proposal.
When should I apply?
As early as you can, ideally two to three months before the intake you want. Offer letters usually take 7 to 14 working days and the EMGS Visa Approval Letter (VAL) usually takes 4 to 6 weeks, and discounts or places can be limited for each intake.
Does BMSCL charge for scholarship and admission help?
Our application support for Malaysian private universities is free. We help you choose a university, check your eligibility for the available discounts, prepare your documents and follow your application through to the visa.
Can I work part-time while studying in Malaysia?
International students may work part-time for up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks or holidays of more than 7 days. Rules change, so confirm the current conditions with your university and the immigration authorities.
